Class Schedules for CPR/First Aid/ PALS/ACLS/PEARS

CPR Class Descriptions

Heartsaver AED

Will be instructed on how to perform CPR on Infants up to 1 year of age, Children (ages 1-8) and Adults (persons age 8 & up).

  • Use of AED.
  • Method of care for choking for persons of all ages will be taught.
  • Recognition of signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke.
  • Recognition of breathing difficulties in children.
  • Hands-on skill test only, no written exam.
  • Card good for two years – $85.00

Usually laypersons will take this class (this can include Daycare office workers, police, baby-sitters, lifeguards, etc.).

Healthcare Provider

  • Teaches CPR/use of AED for all levels: adults, children and infants.
  • Choking methods for all ages will be covered.
  • Required for all medical / professional levels.
  • Successfully complete hands-on skills testing and written exam (with 85%).
  • Card good for two years – $85.00

Family and Friends

  • Non-certified course.
  • Good for laypersons wanting to know how to perform CPR and learn how to help someone choking.
  • Encouraged for family members of patients who are at high risk for cardiac arrest.
  • Perform hands-on CPR with no written exam.
  • Card inside book – $25.00

Pediatric First Aid/CPR

  • Students are taught first aid and CPR as well as choking for infants and children.
  • Usually taken by daycare worker for requirements.
  • AED is also taught.
  • Hands-on training done.
  • No written test.
  • Laypersons may also take this course.
  • Cards good for two years – class approx 6 hrs. – $110.00

Adult First Aid/CPR

  • First aid, CPR, choking & AED taught for adults and children.
  • Usually taken to meet safety requirements for on the job.
  • Hands-on training done.
  • No written exam.
  • Laypersons may also take this class.
  • Cards good for two years – approx. 6 hrs. –  $110.00

ACLS

  • Designated department requirements.
  • Team concept and patient care during a cardiac arrest of adults (in emergency and hospital setting).
  • Medications, defibrillation, equipment and cardiac monitoring is reviewed.
  • Airway review is done.
  • Must pass written exam (85%) and a mock code (group activity) to pass course.
  • Cards good for two years.
  • Must have current CPR before taking class – approx 8 hrs. –  $200.00

PALS

  • Designated department requirements.
  • Team concept and patient care during a cardiac/respiratory arrest of a child or infant (in a hospital or emergency setting).
  • Medications, defibrillation, equipment and cardiac monitoring is reviewed.
  • Airway review is done.
  • Must pass written exam (85%) and mock code done in team setting.
  • Must have current CPR prior to class.
  • Cards good for two years – approx 8 hrs. – $200.00

PEARS

  • Recommended for personnel in all areas caring for children and infants.
  • Course includes assessment skills to identify respiratory failure and shock in children and infants.
  • Improved assessment skills are utilized to prevent these emergencies and knowledge of how to treat them should they occur.
  • Course done in group setting using team concept and hands-on as well as scenario cases presented on DVD.
  • Must have current CPR prior to class, pass mock code and written test completed during visual DVD scenarios.
  • Cards good for two years.

Instructor Classes for BLS (CPR), ACLS and PALS

  • Scheduled to meet need for instructors and upon request if criteria met.
  • Must have current CPR card and complete an application for each discipline requested.
  • Application must be reviewed by Training Coordinator and approved.
  • Must be BLS instructor to become an ACLS or PALS instructor.
  • PALS instructors can also teach PEARS.
  • Cards good for two years.
  • Must meet requirements to renew.
  • Class approx 6 hrs.
  • Must pass written test (85%) and also do class presentation.
  • First class will be monitored.
